7 Report by C Uterhart, Surgeon Superintendent of the Fritz Reuter to the Immigration Office, Hawkes Bay, 18 March 1875.
We left Hamburg the 25 of November with 470 adults on board and soon encountered in the North Sea very heavy weather. We lost our foremast and were obliged to put back to Cuxhaven. There all the passengers who suffered very much during the short trip from the bad weather, it being very cold and damp and wet - the vessel shipping great quantities of water - were taken off from board of the ship and lodged comfortably in some dancing saloons. Scarlet Fever being in the town, it occured among the passengers in one family who was brought in the town hospital and left behind.
The 10th of December we went to sea again this time with only 371 adults, many having gone home fearing another voyage. Four days after starting, Scarlet Fever and Typhoid fever broke out. There occured during the voyage 12 cases of Scarlet Fever and 25 of Typhoid fever; any other infectious diseases we had not. 13 cases of pneumonia were treated - 13 deaths are noticed; 3 adults died of Typhoid fever in the begining of the voyage; 3 children of Scarlet Fever; 3 children and 3 infants of pneumonia, bronchitis, and diarrhea. The last death occured the 20 February when an infaant died of bronchitis; 5 cases of birth took place during the passsage.

In Loving memory of Elizabeth Petersen, Died October 1930 aged 81 years.
15 Note discrepancies between names and ages of first two children - may have changed the names after coming to NZ or may be other explanation. Did the children die on the ship? Not clear.
16 Are entries for a Jens Petersen, farmer at Ashurst in Electoral Rolls and Wises Directories (eg 1896 & 1899 Elect. Roll). Could be where he went when he left Norsewood. Needs further checking to be sure. Note also other Jens and Jens Christian Petersens at Stanway, Mauriceville, Otorohanga, Maihiihi.
